LearnWake – Mobile App Design
LearnWake is an instructional video platform dedicated to wakeboarding education and instruction.
The team at LearnWake wanted to expand their brand’s reach by creating a mobile application. The goal of the application was to drive more engagement with videos and user interaction. There was an immediate need for subscribers to record their runs or tricks and upload them for professional feedback. Because most of the action takes place in the middle of a lake, the team couldn’t rely on a web application and unreliable wifi. A mobile app was the answer.
As acting digital Art Director, I was tasked to create the user flow and look of the application. Step one was to assess the scope and address the deliverables. We knew the app needed to be instantly accessible and user friendly to members. I began the process of wire framing the main sections of the site; programs, videos, events, feeds and the user profile. After a few revisions we felt confident of the direction.
The programs section received priority because it provided a natural starting point for members. Programs are designed to help you progress through a variety of video series, regardless of your experience level. The videos section is a searchable repository of all the available content while events provide a geo targeted method to find nearby tours. Feeds are provided via social networks of the parent brand WakeBoarding.
The user profile section in made up of a log in/subscription flow, progress (to track how you are doing), uploaded and downloaded videos, saved favorites and general settings.
The deliverables were created with Sketch, Abode Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator. Prototyped in InVision.
